Your visual art journal cover is an extension of the journal content and the journal keeper of art.Â
HOW TO PERSONALIZE YOUR VISUAL ART JOURNAL
Today I’d like to share with you how to personalize your visual art journal cover. If you’ve never created a personal visual art journal cover before, please read on. In The Joy of Painting by Anne Collier, Anne talks about using your journal to organize your art practice and to reflect on your day-to-day life. She writes, “It gives you a place to record your day- what you see, who you are with, where you are, what you feel like doing.”
CREATE A BACKGROUND AND TEXT THAT REPRESENT THE CONTENT OF THE JOURNAL
Begin with a rough sketch of your overall cover design note any elements that make the design feel unique.
Choose 3 or 4 different colors from within the sketch to help the page feel alive inside the cover. Create a journal title using your favorite word or phrase. What inspires you? Use a decorative border around the text or the sketch and place it below the sketch.
USE STICKERS, COLLAGE, OR PAINT
Use stickers, collage, or paint of places you’ve visited & people you know. As you create images over time, don’t stop creating the pictures as you think of them. Instead, collect as many pictures as you can and go back through and rearrange them on the cover for the best design possible.
In the next blog post, I’ll show you how to take your journal to the next level.
